A Survey on the Prescriptions of Prescriptions of Psychotropic Drugs by Nonpsychiatric Physicians


Abstract
In an attempt to survey the prescriptions of psychotropic drugs by nonpsychiatric physicians without psychiatric consultation, this study was conducted by the authors.
The authors reviewed and analyzed the charts of 5,400 inpatients and 723 outpatients who received treatment in the clinical departments except departments of psychitary, dentistry and plastic surgery of Pusan National University Hospital. The
results
were summarized as follows .
1. Psychotropic drugs were prescribed by nonpsychiatric physicians in about 4.4% of inpatients and about 11.2% of outpatients.
2. Psychotropic drugs were prescribed more frequently in both inpatients and outpatients of medical part than those of surgical part.
3. Most of the kinds of psychotropic drugs were anxiolytics ofbenzodiazepine derivatives in both inpatients and outpatients.
